The fabulously named ‘Hungry Pigeon Festival’ will be swooping into the Northern Quarter next month to take over venues and peck at your ears ‘til you like it. Coo.

Confirmed bands so far include:

NINE BLACK ALPS / WAVE MACHINES / MISTY’S BIG ADVENTURE / THE TRAVELLING BAND / THE VORTEX / THE MAYBES / KARIMA FRANCIS / THE JESSIE ROSE TRIP / FRAZER KING / CASIO KID / GIDEON CONN / THE WHISKYCATS / MANCHESTER SCHOOL OF SAMBA

The three-day event will take place on May Bank Holiday, 22nd to 25th. A ginormous stage will be erected in Piccadilly Gardens, attracting an expected crowd of 5000. Bands will also play at some of the best venues in the area, including the Roadhouse, Night & Day, Dry Bar and Mint Lounge, along with some unexpected choices like Affleck’s Palace.

Brought to you by the same folks that ran the MAPS festival last year (Music, Art, Poetry, and Stuff), it is as yet unclear whether they have dropped the Art, Poetry and Stuff entirely from their lineup, but they’re definitely going all out on the Music.

Tickets are available now on the website: seetickets.com.

PULP will of course be there to cover the meat of the thing, so keep an eye out for our snap-happy camera fiends. And consider this the official start of a rumour: the event is mandatory fancy dress. The best-dressed pigeon to locate a PULP reporter will be rewarded with photographic fame and a box of Trill.

Come on. Dare ya.

Alexander Walsh
